About ragdoll

History of the breed.

A number of stories and legends about the breed and its characteristic trait: sagging muscles have created since 1965. We present you the most probable ones.

Ragdolls were created in the mid-60s by American breeder Ann Baker.

Mother of the race was a white Persian cat, Josephine, its father, Burmese cat color seal colorpoint.
In the feline world there is a circulating legend that says that the trauma which Josephine experienced during an accident, caused less nervous excitability in her descendants and their insensitivity to pain. The second one says that medicines the cat was getting after the accident contributed to these characteristic cat’s trait. However, we have to remember that these are only legends that are not based on any biological principles and Ragdolls feel pain like any other creature.

By selectively choosing of individuals who have all the desired features there have raised a cat, which from among of all cat breeds stands very gentle and friendly nature, and the so-called “ragdolls overhang” which means total relaxation at the moment of taking the cat in our arms. That’s why the breed is called ragdoll. The breed is perfect for families with children in any age, like my family: children with age 2,5 year and 8 months.It’s also great for elders. Children sometimes can hurt cats, so attention is essential.

To sum up, what Ragdoll is like ? It’s a super friendly, not shy companion of all daily activities, not biting and scratching anyone. The cat, which never stop surprising his gentleness, commitment to human and his curiosity. Cats are used to special therapy with them, which can be a proof to confirm all their features. Due to its fearless it’s recommended to Ragdoll to be a domestic cat. If cat want a walk, then it have to be in a protected place reserved for ragdoll’s walks.

Model of the breed

Ragdoll is a large cat, which clearly distinguishes it from the Burmese cat. Males may weigh from 7 to 9 kg, females from 4.5 to 7 kg. Hind legs are slightly longer than the front, strong feet with thick tufts of hair between the toes. Tail is rather long and bushy, reaching shoulder blades. The head is wedge-shaped, flattened upwards forehead, full cheeks and a straight nose with a slight recess at the base. Medium sized ears, wide at the base, inclined slightly forward. Big, round, blue eyes. Coat semi-long, silky, with longer hair on the chest and belly.
